Chaos at Howe Community Park Sends 4 Shot in Sacramento County's Arden-Arcade Neighborhood

Sacramento County Sheriff's Office investigators are examining a gun violence incident that occurred Saturday night April 18 at Howe Park at the time officers were dispersing a large unsanctioned party of an estimated several hundred individuals.

What Led to the Shooting

Sacramento County Sheriff's deputies were first dispatched to the Arden-Arcade park around 6:30 PM after being notified of individuals who may have had concealed firearms. Following that, another report was received about a potential altercation breaking out at Howe Park.

A sheriff's airship was sent to survey the area but reported no active disturbance. Despite this, it was evident that several hundred individuals had assembled at the park in an unauthorized manner.

The Dispersal and Shooting

Sacramento County Sheriff's deputies began the process of clearing the park by surrounding the park and making announcements instructing Arden Arcade shooting April 2026 the assembled crowd to clear out. Around 15 minutes were allowed for the gathering to break up.

At the height of the dispersal effort that upwards of 20 gunshots rang out. The rapid succession of shots caused mass panic. Responding personnel quickly moved to finding those who had been shot.

Four People Shot

When the dust settled, four individuals were found to have been shot. The shooting victims — consisting of one woman and three men all reportedly in their 20s at the time of the incident — were rushed to Sacramento area hospitals. Doctors and nurses reported that two victims sustained immediate injuries, one of the four had moderate gunshot wounds, and one sustained minor gunshot wounds. According to authorities, no fatalities were reported and all four were stable.

Sacramento fire crews arrived on scene and assisted with medical triage those with gunshot wounds at the scene.

The Investigation

The center of the incident was confirmed to have occurred adjacent to Cottage Way close to the local Home Depot at the 2200 block of Howe Avenue. Detectives located more spent casings throughout the Cottage Way area. Bullet holes were identified in the iron fence bordering the Home Depot. These findings indicated that a second shooter had been sending rounds south from Cottage Way targeting the Home Depot store. The Home Depot was placed on lockdown during the incident. Crime scene technicians and detectives stayed at the location through the early morning hours.

Detainees in Solano County

Information relayed over scanner radio traffic revealed that a Kia had been detained in Solano County California. Four people were stopped and detained. Law enforcement units were heading to pick up the four detainees to collect the individuals for formal questioning. Video that was reviewed showed that two separate shooters participated in the incident.
